TBM S-840C achieves second breakthrough under Kanpur Metro Project Phase I

Tunnel boring machine (TBM) S-840C has achieved its second breakthrough at Double Pulia station for package KNPCC-11 under the Kanpur Metro Rail Phase I Project. With this, Kanpur Metro has reached a major milestone of completing tunnel construction in 4.80 km underground section between Rawatpur and Double Pulia on Corridor-2.

Package KNPCC-11 involves design and construction of twin tunnel by shield TBM, tunnel by cut and cover, underground ramp at Agriculture Depot for main line and depot connections and three underground metro stations viz. Rawatpur, Kakadeo and Double Pullia on Corridor-2. The package was awarded to joint venture of Kalpataru Projects International Limited and Gülermak Ağır Sanayi İnşaat ve Taahhüt A.Ş in December 2023.

The Kanpur Metro Project involves development of 33 km long metro rail system in Uttar Pradesh at an investment of Rs 110.76 billion.
