Railway Board grants approval for transfer of Mangalore railway region to SWR

The Railway Board (RB) has granted approval for transfer of Mangaluru railway region till Ullal (inclusive) from Palakkad division under Southern Railway (SR) to Mysuru division under the South Western Railway (SWR) zone, with effect from October 1, 2026. With this, the interchange point between both SR and SWR will shift from Padil to Ullal. The exact divisional boundaries between both the zones will be issued in a gazette notification. The Mangaluru railway area comprises of Mangaluru Central, Mangaluru Junction, Panambur (New Mangalore Port), and Ullal railway stations. Besides, Thokur station will remain under Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) and will serve as the interchange point between KRCL and SWR.
