Telecom operators have reportedly begun testing the calling name presentation (CNAP) service in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, a move that could soon let users see the names of callers they do not recognise. Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea Limited and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) are running pilots in Haryana, while Airtel is trialling the service in Himachal.
CNAP matches incoming numbers with subscriber details captured during SIM registration, allowing the caller’s name to appear even if the number is not saved. The aim is to cut spam, fraud and impersonation by adding greater transparency to mobile communications.
Meanwhile, a wider rollout is planned by March 2026.
