MoR signs MoU with MoRTH for faster land acquisition process

MoR has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to expedite the land acquisition process, including for projects under the PM Gati Shakti scheme. As part of this agreement, a fixed timeline has been established for land acquisition between the two ministries. For instance, if MoRTH or the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) requires railway land for highway construction, it must apply through IR’s online portal and will be provided the required land within 90 days. Similarly, IR will follow the same process when land is required from MoRTH. However, since MoRTH currently does not have an online portal, the process will be carried out offline. In such cases, the application will be submitted manually to them, and within 15 days of submission, a joint team from both ministries will identify the required land. Additionally, review meetings will be held every two months to address issues related to land, road-over-bridges (RoBs) and road-under-bridges (RuBs). A shared portal will also be developed for monitoring purposes.
