ReNew signs Rs 700 billion MoU with Maharashtra government to develop green integrated data centre park in MMR

ReNew Wind Energy Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of ReNew Private Limited, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Maharashtra to develop a proposed Rs 700 billion green integrated data centre park in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

The proposed facility will have a planned capacity of 750 megawatt (MW) and is expected to be developed across Panvel, Khalapur, Taloja and Bhokharpada in the Navi Mumbai and MMR region, with development scheduled to begin in phases from 2028. The project is expected to generate around 7,000 employment opportunities, including more than 2,000 direct jobs.

The MoU was signed by principal secretary of the Industries, Investment and Services Department and chief executive officer of Invest Maharashtra, on behalf of the state government. Under the agreement, the government of Maharashtra will facilitate the process of obtaining necessary approvals, clearances, registrations and applicable fiscal incentives for the proposed development.

A key feature of the project is the planned integration of renewable energy into data centre operations, with the facility expected to use 51 per cent green power and to have dedicated power infrastructure including two incoming feeders from independent sources.
