The new passenger terminal building at the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport at Leh in Ladakh was inaugurated on October 15, 2026.
The terminal, built at a cost of around Rs 6.4 billion, increases the annual passenger handling capacity from 1 million passengers per annum (mppa) to 3.5 mppa, while also tripling the flight handling capacity. Spread over 23,800 square metres, it blends modern passenger amenities with elements of Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage and aligns infrastructure growth with ecological preservation.
The terminal is also the first in the country to feature geothermal heating alongside the use of solar energy, tailored to the region’s climatic extremes.
The move is expected to enhance passenger convenience and strengthen air connectivity.
