Government to invest additional Rs 10 billion in inland waterways projects in Northeast by 2026

The Indian government has announced an additional investment of Rs 10 billion to enhance inland waterways infrastructure in the Northeast by 2026.

This new funding supplements the ongoing projects worth Rs 10 billion in the Northeast. Of which, Rs 3 billion worth of projects have already been completed and the remaining Rs 7 billion worth of projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

The focus is on developing robust infrastructure along the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers, enhancing cargo and passenger movement, and promoting economic development in the region.
