The new Ayodhya Airport, named Maharishi Valmiki International Airport was inaugurated on December 30, 2023. The first phase of the airport has a passenger handling capacity of 1 million passengers per annum (mppa), and the second phase will cater to 6 mppa. The phase 1 was built at a cost of around Rs 14.5 billion. The terminal building would have an area of 6,500 sq m and is also equipped with sustainability features including LED lighting, insulated roofing system, rainwater harvesting, solar power plant, etc.
