IR works on increasing freight loading to 3,200 mt

IR has finalised a major upgradation plan to increase its freight loading capacity to 3,200 mt. The upgradation is being carried out to achieve faster and seamless freight movement in order to accelerate economic growth. According to a report, the National Rail Plan, 2030, envisages an investment of Rs 50 trillion in the next decade, including investment for upgradation of all rail tracks connecting the Golden Quadrilateral and Golden Diagonal to allow trains to run at 160 kmph. It also envisages doubling the average speed from the current 25 kmph to 50 kmph.
