Chennai Metro Rail witnessed a sharp decline in ridership, with nearly 594,000 fewer passengers recorded in April 2024.
The previous similar decline witnessed when ridership declined from 8.55 million passengers in October 2023 to 8 million in November 2023.
Officials attribute possible causes to the shifting of the bus terminus from Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R. Bus Terminus in Koyambedu to Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus in Kilambakkam and summer vacations but intend to conduct an analysis to uncover other factors contributing to the sudden drop in ridership.
