Central government forms committee for implementation of Kisan Rail

The central government has formed a committee under the Ministry of Agriculture that also includes representatives of IR to work out the modalities for Kisan Rail. The setting up of Kisan Rail through the public-private partnership mode to transport perishable goods was proposed in Union Budget 2020. Nine such refrigerated vans are already available on IR’s network. These refrigerated vans, with a carrying capacity of 17 tonnes each, have been developed and procured from the Rail Coach Factory at Kapurthala.
