Indian Railways (IR) approved the Provision of Kavach 4.0 on 614.75 rkm of Varanasi Division Project on September 28, 2026. It has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 2.23 billion.
The project involves installation of Kavach 4.0 on 614.75 route km (rkm) of Varanasi railway division under the North Eastern Railway (NER) zone at a cost of around Rs 2.23 billion. It will lead to safer train operations by preventing Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD), and also automatically applying brakes when required among other safety features.
