The Union Government has approved a Rs 8.87 billion project plan to develop a world-class marina in Mumbai Harbour aimed at strengthening coastal shipping, maritime tourism and waterfront urban development. The proposed ‘Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina’ will be built over about 12 hectares of seawater and accommodate up to 424 yachts (up to 30 metres length).
Under a hybrid development model, the Mumbai Port Authority will invest around Rs 4.7 billion to construct core marina infrastructure, while a private partner will invest about Rs 4.17 billion to develop onshore facilities. These will include a marina terminal, Namo Bharat International Sailing School, tourism centre, hotel, skill centre, and yacht support services. Tenders are open until December 29, 2025.
