Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) installed the first 170-tonne U-shaped girder between pillars 284 and 285 along the Infopark Expressway in Kakkanad under the Kochi Metro Rail Phase II Project on October 24, 2025.
Additionally, the construction of 65 pillars near the proposed metro stations at Special Economic Zone, Alinchuvadu and Vazhakkala has been completed, and pier caps have been installed on 18 of them.
Also, the work on 1,135 piles including 875 for the metro line and 260 for station buildings has been finished. At the Kalamassery casting yard, 100 U-girders, 72 I-girders and 100 pier caps have already been produced, with the remaining components under active fabrication.
The project involves the development of an 11.17 km long metro rail network from Jawaharlal Nehru stadium to Infopark via Kakkanad as an extension of Phase I in Kerala with an investment of Rs 19.57 billion.
