The Ravin Group has partnered with J Kumar Infraprojects Limited and Mumbai Metro to contribute to the safety and reliability of Mumbai’s first underground metro, the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Line (also called the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line).
The first phase of the underground line was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 5, 2024. The Government of Maharashtra, Mumbai Metro and all the agencies concerned have worked together to overcome the challenges in starting the operations of this line.
In underground metros, enclosed places, high-rise buildings etc., securing lives and property from fire hazards is of paramount importance. To address safety concerns, the Ravin Group has designed Ignamo Fire survival cables. These cables can withstand the severest of fires for a period of 120 minutes and more without losing their circuit integrity, and at the same time do not emit smoke or toxic fumes while burning.
Once operational, the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line will provide seamless connectivity, ensuring safer and more efficient travel for commuters.
This development highlights the technology and engineering skills that India possesses and the Ravin Group is a part of this advancement. For a long period, specialty fire survival products were not made in India, but the company overcame challenges to manufacture fire survival cables in Maharashtra, ensuring safety and reliability not just during supply but also during the installation of the cables for the underground stretch from SEEPZ to the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Phase I, and then up to Colaba in Phase II.
The Ravin Group has been instrumental in carrying out various extra high voltage (EHV) projects in Mumbai, adding over 1,800 MW of additional electricity supply capacity through its EHV Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects.
