Delhi government targets rollout of semiconductor and drone policies by September 2026

The Delhi government is reportedly planning to implement its semiconductor and drone policies by the end of September 2026, with draft policies expected to be sent to chief minister of Delhi for approval shortly.

The Semiconductor Policy is structured around five key pillars: semiconductor design and intellectual property development; research, development and innovation; manufacturing-enabling activities such as assembly, testing, marking and packaging and outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing; development of ancillary industries; and talent development, skilling and strengthening of the startup and industrial ecosystem.

Under the Drone Policy, the government plans to promote the use of drones and develop a dedicated ecosystem in Delhi, supporting drone companies, startups, training and related activities. As part of this plan, the government will approach the Delhi Development Authority to seek land in Narela for a drone ecosystem. Drones are increasingly being used for surveillance, mapping, agriculture, delivery services, infrastructure inspection and emergency response, and a dedicated ecosystem would encourage more companies and startups to enter the sector.

Further, the specific incentives and benefits under both policies will be finalised once the drafts receive approval.
