The Ministry of Railways (MoR) inaugurated the 56 km long Kailaras-Sabalgarh-Birpur rail section of the Gwalior-Sheorpurkalan Gauge Conversion Project on August 18, 2026.
Besides, work on the next sections which includes the 37 km long Birpur-Seroni Road section and 33 km long Seroni Road-Sheopur-Kalan section is almost complete.
Moreover, the entire project is likely to be commissioned soon.
The project involves gauge conversion of 284 km long railway line of Gwalior-Sheopur Kalan section with extension upto Kota in Madhya Pradesh with an investment of Rs 38.46 billion. It is being implemented by North Central Railway (NCR) in four phases: Phase I – 48.41-km Gwalior-Jaura-Alapur section, Phase II-41.6-km Jaura-Alapur-Sabalgarh section, Phase III – 107.3-km Sabalgarh-SheopurKalan section and Phase IV – 96.47-km Sheopur-Kota section.
