The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation has undertaken upgradation works of 15 overhead water tanks across Salt Lake in Kolkata for the first time in the area. The estimated project cost is around Rs 232 million and the funds have been sanctioned under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation scheme. The capacity of each tank is about 120,000 gallons and they altogether supply filtered water to over 26,000 households, many commercial set-ups, and offices.
Retrofitting, mechanical and electro-civil repair together with the replacement of the old pumps is being carried out in the tanks. Additionally, ground-level reservoirs will be repaired, including the boundary walls, tank structure and the dome on top. The work is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
