IR plans to upgrade couplers in premium trains

As a part of its plan to upgrade premium trains, IR is undertaking the replacement of old couplers in these trains with new ones. So far, all the Shatabdi trains under Northern Railway have undergone this upgradation. IR plans to upgrade couplers for all Shatabdi Express trains by end December 2018 and for all Rajdhani Express trains by end January 2019. The old couplers are being replaced by a new version of the centre buffer coupler, which has balanced draft gear equipped with high capacity shock absorbers. This is likely to eliminate jerks and ensure a smoother journey for passengers.
