The Indian Railways (IR) has approved the Champa-Korba Third Rail Line Project involving construction of a 42 km third railway line between Champa and Korba of Southeast Central Railway (SECR), excluding the already sanctioned Madwarani-Saragbundia section in the state of Chhattisgarh.
The project is approved at an estimated cost of Rs 7.55 billion.
The corridor has been identified under IR’s Mission 3,000 MT and High-Density Network (HDN) Corridor initiatives. The Champa-Korba section serves as a critical rail link connecting the coalfields of Southeastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) with the national rail network and the Mumbai-Howrah High Density Corridor. Upon completion, the project will facilitate two additional passenger trains per day in each direction.
