Tamil Nadu government approves Chennai Metro Phase-I Extension (Airport-Kilambakkam) 

The Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN) has granted in-principle approval for the Chennai Metro Phase-I Extension (Chennai Airport to Kilambakkam Bus Terminus). Besides, it has also sent the detailed project report (DPR) of the project to the union government.

Additionally, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is likely to commence technical surveys and other preliminary activities for the project soon. About 58 acres of land is likely to be acquired for the project, of which 28 acres is privately owned while 30 acres is government land. The land acquisition is likely to commence soon.

The Chennai Metro Phase-I Extension project (Chennai Airport to Kilambakkam Bus Terminus) involves development of a 15.5 km long metro rail network connecting Chennai Airport to Kilambakkam in Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of Rs 93.35 billion. It is an extension of Corridor 1 (Washermenpet to Chennai Airport) under the Phase-I of Chennai Metro.
