Bangalore Metro Phase II will connect the lines covered under Phase 1 with the peripheral areas of the city. It will comprise 61 stations, of which 12 will be underground stations. The first stretch spanning 6.29 km from Puttenahalli Cross to Anjanapura is almost ready while the revised deadline to launch it is November 2020. The Mysore Road-Kengeri line is expected to become operational in February 2021. The Nagasandra-BIEC (Reach 3) line will become operational in January 2022, followed by the Byappanahalli-Whitefield (Reach 1) line, which will take up to June 2022. The much delayed work on the underground section of the Namma Metro Phase 2 line has begun and this stretch, connecting Gottigere in the south with Nagavara in the north, will be completed by June 2024. Multilateral agencies including EIB, AFD and AIIB are funding the project. One huge advantage of this network is that it will help reduce traffic congestion, which is a major cause of concern within the city.
