Andhra Pradesh government launches Aviation Policy 2026-2031

The Andhra Pradesh government has launched its Aviation Policy 2026-31, outlining an ambitious road map to attract private investment and strengthen the state’s aviation ecosystem. The policy focuses on expanding airport infrastructure, enhancing air cargo facilities, developing maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities, and promoting drones and advanced air mobility. A key component of the policy is the operationalisation of nine additional airports, including proposed greenfield airports at Amaravati, Dagadarthi, Kuppam, Palasa, Ongole, Tadepalligudem and Anantapur. The state also plans to develop more than 10 waterdromes and heliports to improve regional connectivity. The government’s long-term vision is to ensure that every region of Andhra Pradesh has access to an airport within a 150 km radius. As part of this expansion, the state aims to increase annual passenger handling capacity from the current 6.2 million passengers per annum (mppa) to 30.38 mppa by 2035. The policy also seeks to create opportunities for private sector participation through the development of airport cities, logistics parks, cargo terminals, warehouses, hotels and other aviation-linked infrastructure.
