The Digital Communications Commission (DCC), the apex decision-making body at the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has reportedly approved most of the recommendations made by sector the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India for the allocation of spectrum for satellite communications services.
Starlink, Bharti Group-backed Eutelsat OneWeb and Reliance Industries’ Jio Satellite Communications have received permission to commence satcom services in India.
However, the services cannot be launched without spectrum allocation and the second stage of security clearance from security agencies. Therefore, the DoT will now approach the union cabinet for final approval on the pricing and allocation process for satellite communications spectrum.
