The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the development of a state-of-the-art ship repair facility at Vadinar, Gujarat, on May 5, 2026. With an investment of Rs 15.7 billion, the project will be jointly implemented by Deendayal Port Authority and Cochin Shipyard Limited as a brownfield facility.
The facility will include a 650 metres jetty, floating dry docks, workshops, and supporting marine infrastructure, enabling repair of large vessels up to 300 metres. It aims to address India’s limited capacity to service large ships domestically, reducing reliance on foreign shipyards and saving foreign exchange.
