62 per cent of construction work gets completed under Perur Water Desalination Plant Project in Tamil Nadu

Around 62 per cent of construction work has been completed on the Perur Water Desalination Plant Project in Tamil Nadu. The work is likely to be completed by March 2027. Trial runs on the same are expected to commence by September 2026. Work to link the seawater drawal pipeline with the caisson structure built for the effective collection and processing of seawater is under way. The project included laying two 2,500 mm diameter pipelines at a depth of 10 metres to draw seawater, and a 756 metre pipeline to discharge brine into the sea. The project involves the construction of a 400 mld seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant, with O&M of 20 years on a design-build-operate basis at an estimated cost of Rs 60.78 billion.
