Volks Energie has completed a multi-location battery replacement project for Powergrid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid), covering the dismantling of existing valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) battery banks and the installation, testing, and commissioning of new Ni-Cd battery systems at critical facilities. The batteries were supplied by SAFT India.
Furthermore, Powergrid’s shift from VRLA to Ni-Cd technology was guided by the need for greater operational reliability and durability in demanding environments, as Ni-Cd batteries offer service life exceeding 15 years and significantly reduce the risk of sudden failures typically associated with VRLA systems. The execution spanned locations including Kargil, Leh, and Yamunanagar. The project commenced on March 20, 2025, and was completed on January 30, 2026.
Volks Energie is a provider of energy storage solutions, HVAC, and solar energy systems in India. Its range of products and services includes Ni-Cd Batteries (4X longer lifespan than VRLA batteries), lithium-ion batteries, battery chargers, HVAC systems tailored for industrial and extreme applications with minimal power consumption, and scalable solar energy solutions.
