SiCSem has performed the ground-breaking ceremony of India’s first fully integrated silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing facility, with an investment of about Rs 20 billion. Earlier, SiCSem’s project had received cabinet approval on August 12, 2025.
The plant, expected to be operational by 2027-28, will have the capacity to process 60,000 SiC wafers annually and package nearly 96 million units. SiC chips are critical for high-voltage applications in sectors such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, and power inverters.
As per the company’s managing director, the facility will combine wafer fabrication and packaging under one roof, marking a major milestone in India’s semiconductor manufacturing journey.
