US-based telecom operator T-Mobile has established what it describes as the world’s first 5G standalone (SA) roaming connection with Reliance Jio, using Syniverse’s connectivity technology.
The development will enable T-Mobile customers to access 5G SA roaming services while travelling internationally, according to a joint statement. The technology is designed to provide faster speeds, lower latency and more reliable connectivity across international networks.
5G SA roaming can support applications that require consistent and high-performance connectivity, including Internet of Things (IoT), real-time communications and immersive technologies.
T-Mobile and Jio used Syniverse’s connectivity platform to establish secure interconnection between their networks. The platform is designed to simplify roaming connectivity and support the expansion of 5G SA services across international markets.
