Indian Railways plans dedicated passenger corridors spanning 7,000 km by 2047

Indian Railways (IR) plans to develop dedicated passenger corridors spanning 7,000 km by 2047. These corridors will support maximum speeds of up to 350 km per hour (kmph), with an operating speed of 320 kmph. They will be equipped with indigenously developed signalling systems and modern operations control centres (OCCs).

Furthermore, IR plans to launch Vande Bharat 4.0 trains by April 2026 for both domestic use and export. Additionally, it plans to design and manufacture Amrit Bharat 4.0 trains, featuring next-generation trainsets and locomotives, which are expected to be ready for testing by October 2028. As of October 2025, 156 Vande Bharat trains, 30 Amrit Bharat trains, and four Namo Bharat trains are operational.
