Dhamra Port in Odisha, operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), has shifted its entire electricity consumption to renewable sources, becoming India’s first large-scale private multi-cargo port to operate fully on renewable electricity. Effective August 2026, the transition supports APSEZ’s long-term net-zero strategy and is expected to reduce emissions associated with purchased electricity.
The port consumes more than 9,000,000 units of renewable electricity monthly, equivalent to over 108 gigawatt hours annually. About 25-30 per cent is sourced from APSEZ’s captive hybrid plant at Khavda, Gujarat, while 10-15 per cent comes through third-party access, with the balance procured through Odisha’s Green Consumer arrangement.
