The central government has inaugurated six sewage treatment plants (STPs) in Bihar under the National Mission for Clean Ganga. The projects include the Digha STP project, which involved the construction of a 100 million litres per day (mld) STP and a 303 km long sewer network. It covered ward numbers 1-9, 20-26, and 28 (partially 50 per cent) in a total area of 3,395.5 hectares, including Patliputra Colony and surrounding areas. Around 150 km of the total 303 km sewer network has been completed under the project. The Kankarbagh STP project involved the construction of a 50 mld STP and a 150 km long sewer network. It included ward numbers 29, 30 (50 per cent), 31-35, and 44-45 in a total area of 886.5 hectares. Besides, about 80.08 km of the total 150 km sewer network has been completed. These two STPs were constructed at a combined cost of Rs 11.88 billion. The Fatuha STP included the development of an STP for the treatment of sewage generated from Fatuha town, which is released into the Ganga river at a cost of Rs 492.1 million. The government has also inaugurated the Bakhtiyarpur STP, Begusarai STP and the Rs 3 billion Mokama STP.
