Railways creates record by manufacturing 554 coaches in first four months of the current year

The Modern Coach Factory (MCF), in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, has created a new record by manufacturing a total of 554 Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches in the first four months of the current financial year, as compared to 368 LHB coaches manufactured during the same period in 2018-19, an increase of more than 50 per cent. In July 2019 alone, 142 LHB coaches were manufactured. The comissioning of robotic manufacturing lines of the side wall, under frame and shell assembly, apart from strategic material planning, supply and chain management, and constant monitoring has resulted in this high increase. The Railway Board had given a production target of 1,458 LHB coaches to the MCF for 2019-20 that was revised to 2,158 coaches in end May 2019 as a result of the high production.
