TBM S-640B achieves second breakthrough for package KNPCC-06 under Kanpur metro project phase-II in Uttar Pradesh

Tunnel boring machine (TBM) S-640B has achieved its second breakthrough at Transport Nagar station for package KNPCC-06 under the Kanpur metro rail project. It was commissioned in July 2024 and travelled 330 metres till Transport Nagar station.

Package KNPCC-06 involves design and construction of a tunnel through TBM, cut and cover tunnel, underground ramp from Kanpur Central end of Nayaganj station to elevated ramp after Transport Nagar and three underground metro stations viz. Kanpur Central, Jhakarkatti and Transport Nagar including architectural finishes, electrical and mechanical, tunnel ventilation system, etc. on Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Naubasta via Jhakarkati bus terminal corridor (corridor 1).

The Kanpur metro project involves development of a 33 km long metro rail system in Uttar Pradesh at an investment of Rs 110.76 billion.
