The Surat metro project has made significant progress as the tunnel boring machine (TBM) S94 (Tapi) successfully completed its third and final drive. For its concluding task, TBM Tapi commenced its drive from Central Warehouse station and achieved a breakthrough at Surat railway station of line 1 after constructing a 389-metre tunnel.
The Gulermak – Sam India Builtwell joint venture (JV) was awarded a contract worth Rs 10.73 billion for package CS2 / UG1 by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, with a completion deadline of 40 months. Under this contract, the JV is tasked with the design, construction, and finishing of underground stations and tunnels from the Kapodra Ramp to the Surat railway station, covering a distance from chainage 3,700 meters to 7,160.6 meters. The scope includes building three underground stations namely, Kapodra, Labheshwar Chowk, and Central Warehouse.
