The government of Punjab has given approval to release 20.2 hectares of land for the construction of a depot in New Chandigarh for the Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali (Tricity) metro project. Clearance from the forest department is awaited for the same.
Besides, instead of the depot proposed earlier in Zirakpur another depot at Sector 27, Panchkula is planned. The government of Haryana has given the approval for the same.
Phase I will involve three corridors: corridor I (34 km) spans from Sultanpur, New Chandigarh to Sector 28, Panchkula; corridor II (41.2 km) spans from Sukhna lake to Interstate bus terminus (ISBT) Zirakpur via ISBT Mohali; and corridor II (13.3 km) spans from Grain Market Chowk to Transport Light Chowk, Sector 26, urban transit region (UTR). Phase II will have two corridors: Airport Chowk to Manakpur Kallar (5 km) and ISBT Zirakpur to Pinjore (20 km).
