Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways approves an investment of more than Rs 6.45 billion to develop waterways projects

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has recently announced an investment of more than Rs 6.45 billion to develop 10 waterways projects in Assam, under the Sagarmala programme. These projects will be implemented with 100 per cent financial assistance from the central government to enhance terminals and riverine infrastructure along the river Brahmaputra (NW-2) to boost connectivity and foster economic growth. The projects include construction of slipways at strategic locations such as Maya Ghat in Dhubri district and Majuli district, establishment of passenger terminals at Ghagor in North Lakhimpur district and Bahari in Barpeta district, setting up passenger terminals in Goalpara, Guijan, Kurua, Dhubri, Disangmukh, and Matmora, catering to the diverse needs of different districts within Assam.
