The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 5 billion for the development of metro rail networks and the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut regional rail transit system (RRTS). Of the total amount, Rs 2.5 billion has been allocated for the RRTS, Rs 1.5 billion for the Lucknow metro and Rs 1 billion for metro projects in Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Jhansi and Meerut. The RRTS will span 90.2 km and cover 17 stations. The project is estimated to cost $5.15 billion. Pre-construction activities are currently in progress.
