Indian Railways (IR) has approved installation of Kavach 4.0 on 48 block sections of Ahmedabad division under the Western Railway (WR) zone in Gujarat on June 15, 2026. It has been approved at a sanctioned cost of Rs 1.4 billion, under the umbrella programme for the provision of Kavach with LTE-based communication backbone on balance routes of IR.
Previously, IR had sanctioned Kavach deployment on about 702 route km (rkm) of this division.
The project involves installation of Kavach 4.0 on 48 block sections, covering a total 598 rkm of Ahmedabad division under the Western Railway (WR) zone at a cost of Rs 1.4 billion.
