Union Home Minister has launched the Land Port Management System (LPMS), a nationwide digital platform designed to modernise cargo and passenger processing at India’s land borders. The system introduces end-to-end digital workflows, reducing paperwork, improving coordination among agencies, and enabling faster clearances. According to the government, LPMS is expected to cut documentation requirements by about 90 per cent, reduce cargo truck waiting times by 22-35 per cent, and shorten gate-processing times by 40-60 per cent.
The platform supports real-time information sharing and integrates multiple border-management functions into a single system, bringing land ports closer to the digital standards already used at airports and seaports. Currently, 15 land ports are operational in the country, with plans to develop 11 more over the next three years.
