Vizag lands Rs 150 billion data centre deal

Visakhapatnam (Vizag) has secured its second major digital infrastructure investment, cementing the city’s role in India’s evolving data strategy. The Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP) has signed an agreement with Tillman Global Holdings, a New York-based digital infrastructure firm, for a Rs 150 billion, 300-megawatt (MW) hyperscale data centre campus.

The deal comes shortly after Google’s $15-billion commitment to build its largest artificial intelligence (AI) hub outside the US in Vizag. Together, the projects set a dual-track strategy for the region: high-volume, general-purpose cloud storage (Tillman) alongside cutting-edge, gigawatt-scale AI compute (Google).

Tillman Global Holdings will lead the investment, technology, and design of the facility, named TDGAP1. The 300 MW capacity indicates a clear intent to serve major public cloud providers and large enterprises seeking regional digital resilience.

The state government, via the AP Economic Development Board (APEDB), will expedite progress by supporting land acquisition for the planned 40-acre site. The aim is to create a facilitation framework to enable time-bound development within 12 months.

This rapid policy push reflects the operational backing envisioned under AP’s latest IT and Global Capability Centres (GCC) Policy to attract large global players. The project is expected to create 200-300 direct jobs and nearly 1,000 indirect roles by 2028, catalysing growth across cloud services and network logistics.
