About 14.8 per cent of the work has been completed under the canal-based water supply project under the Ludhiana Surface Water Supply Scheme in Ludhiana, Punjab. Around 20 km of water supply pipelines have been laid, out of a total of 165 km of transmission and distribution network, with material arranged for an additional 25 km. Moreover, 70 new overhead water reservoirs are likely to be constructed under the project, of which work has already started on 28 sites. Of the total 50 old overhead water reservoirs that will be rehabilitated under the project, non-destructive testing has been conducted at 30 existing ones. The first phase of the project has a budget of Rs 13.05 billion and an additional sum of Rs 1.54 billion has been earmarked for 10 years of operations and maintenance. A sum of Rs 840 million has been reserved for quality assurance under the project. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by February 2025.
