Greater Bengaluru Authority collaborates with IISc Bengaluru and IIT Madras for Bengaluru Water Resilience Project

The Greater Bengaluru Authority has collaborated with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras for its ambitious Bengaluru Water Resilience Project. The project will receive a funding of around Rs 35 billion from the World Bank. IIT Madras will offer necessary staff training for the project execution while IISc will help to update the water related models with advanced technology for data processing and visualisation. Further, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre will provide innovative science and technology inputs in addition to capacity-building support.

The project will upgrade stormwater drains (SWDs), prevent the concretisation of drains and lakes to help recharge groundwater, identify nature-based solutions for flood-prone areas, and put in place maintenance plans for SWDs during the summer months. It will be implemented by a special-purpose vehicle called Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited.
