NHAI to take steps to curb unauthorised occupation of highways following Supreme Court directive

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been ordered by the Supreme Court to establish surveillance teams of police officers and take decisive action to stop the unlawful occupancy of highway lands. The implementing agency was also ordered to publish a comprehensive standard operating procedure (SOP) that addresses the formation of teams for national highway inspections and data for illegal occupation.

Additionally, the Supreme Court has ordered the centre to widely publicise the “Rajmargyatra” mobile application’s availability on print, electronic, and social media platforms. The application was released by NHAI with the goal of giving national highways users thorough information and effective complaint resolution. Information on the availability of the mobile application will be posted at toll and food plazas on roads.
