Centre to expand 25,000 km of two-lane highways to four-lanes for Rs 10 trillion

The centre plans to convert two-lane highways spanning 25,000 km into four-lane highways at an estimated cost of Rs 10 trillion. The detailed project reports (DPRs) for the same are currently underway. The work is expected to be completed in two years. Once completed, these highways will help reduce traffic accidents. This is a key part of the Centre’s larger plan to reduce road accidents by 50 per cent by 2030.

Furthermore, around 16,000 km of national highways will be converted into six lanes at an estimated cost of Rs 6 trillion.
