On January 21, 2025, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) launched multiple projects worth about Rs 20 billion in order to expand capacity at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Mumbai. This includes development of a state-of-the-art agro processing facility. With an investment of Rs 2.84 billion, spanning 27 acres within the port complex, this one-of-its-kind facility is set to transform the processing, storage, and transportation of agricultural commodities.
Additionally, one solar powered boat, two indigenously developed 70T tugs and three fire tenders were launched at the port. This will boost safety and efficiency of the port. Besides, memorandum of understandings (MoUs) were signed to develop warehousing facilities, port facilitation centre along with a business facilitation centre.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port is amongst the top global ports and became country’s largest port by crossing more than 10 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) capacity in January 2025. Further, it has set a target to achieve 10 million TEUs throughput by 2027.
