The government of Uttar Pradesh is improving drinking water amenities in Prayagraj for the upcoming Mahakumbh fair. Around 36 new tube wells are in the final stages of installation with around 75 per cent of the work completed. Out of these, five were established at a cost of Rs 45 million and six were rebored in the first phase. In the second phase, 13 tube wells were built at a cost of Rs 90 million and 12 were rebored. The major focus areas are Daraganj, Kydganj, Mutthiganj, Chhota Baghada, Baihrana, Sohbatiya Bagh, Teliyar Ganj, Govindpur, Jhunsi and Naini.
Moreover, Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Urban) is also setting up new public standposts to provide public tap water facilities to the local population and building toilets in the parking areas at an estimated cost of Rs 560 million. The new tube wells will be utilised to provide water to the standposts and irrigate plants planted for the beautification of the city.
