CMWSSB proposes comprehensive ring main system for water supply in Chennai

The Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has proposed a comprehensive ring main system for water supply in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Currently, the detailed project report, prepared by Shah Technical Consultants Private Limited is being reviewed by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. The scope of work includes the development of a circular pipeline network having a total length of 94.45 km encompassing 426 sq. km area under Greater Chennai Corporation. The pipeline network will connect all major water sources like water treatment plants and desalination plants and feed about 11 distribution points across the city to ensure equitable water supply across the city. The network will be managed by the supervisory control and data acquisition system. The work is likely to be completed in 30 months at an estimated cost of Rs 20.05 billion. Besides, there are similar plans to further develop a 107 km long pipeline network at an estimated cost of Rs 18.3 billion.
