PM Modi inaugurates Kochi-Lakshadweep submarine optical fibre connection

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands submarine optical fibre connection (KLI-SOFC). The project is expected to increase internet speed by over 100 times, from 1.7 Gbps to 200 Gbps. The total link distance under the KLI-SOFC is 1,868 km. With the launch of the project, submarine cable connectivity has been extended from the mainland (Kochi) to 11 Lakshadweep islands. The total cost of the project stood at Rs 10.72 billion (excluding taxes), funded by the USOF. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited was the project executing agency.
