The construction work on the Perur desalination plant in Tamil Nadu is likely to be completed by December 2026. The project involves the construction of a 400 mld seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant at Perur in Chennai with operation and maintenance of 20 years on a design, build and operate basis under the public-private partnership model. It aims to augment the drinking water supply in the southern and western parts of Chennai city with no perennial source of surface water. It is being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and is being executed by a joint venture of VA Tech Wabag Limited and Metito Overseas. It is expected to be completed in 42 months at an estimated cost of Rs 44 billion.
